Our Mission | Our History
Encourage,
Strengthen,
& Uplift
Our mission is to make financial resources available to young men and women as they pursue their dreams of higher education and continue the athleticism in a game they love. Upon Hollis death we received resources of over $5,000 and we wanted to do something in the community that Hollis loved and that would be of help in reaching young men and women’s academic and athletic goals. As we shared our thoughts with Hollis’s friends and family they also had an interest in this effort. Rev. Marshall did the research and we then began our Non-Profit 501 (3) C.
Some of the eligibility requirements, a letter of acceptance to play basketball in a Division 1, 2, or 3 academic institution, 3.2 GPA and community involvement. In 2015 we were able to give two scholarships and then in 2017 one scholarship. This year we are honored to have the resources to award two scholarships. All scholarships have a monetary value of $2,000. Hollis had a love for culinary and music, as our group matures we hope to have the ability to award a scholarship in the Arts as well.
The application to the HBJ Basketball Scholarship is available online at our website below. Our scholarship will assist with books, transportation, incidentals, and needs for the student as they transition to college life.
Along with the monetary scholarship we also award the HBJ Crystal Leadership/Community/Humanitarian Award, for the student’s involvement in his/or her community. Encouraging our young people, the importance in giving back to the community.
Our plan is to have increased philanthropic support to allow the HBJ Scholarship Foundation to thrive significantly in the years to come. We are working on a long-term strategic plan for this effort. We welcome your continued support in this effort.
